Cricket Fun Day 2005

Catterline Clifftoppers Catterline's team for this year's Cricket Fun Day and Mineralwell park was comprised mainly of new and enthusiastic talent and we were unfortunate to come up against to strong teams in our opening games.
We were drawn in the same group as the Tennis Club (the defending champions), The Hookers and the Mums in Touch, and our first game was against the Hookers.
Brendan call the toss correctly and we chose to bat, hoping to put up a good total to put the team from the Hook and Eye under pressure from the start. The first part of the plan worked reasonably well and we posted a total of over 60, which is not bad for a six over innings. Unfortunately our bowling and fielding wasn’t up to defending the score, and the hookers won in the fifth over of their innings, with 4 wickets in hand.
Our second game was slightly easier, as it was against the women and children of Mums in Touch. Again Brendan called correctly, and this time I decided to bowl instead, hoping that we'd do better trying to chase a total rather than defending one. This worked well and we made the total fairly comfortably.
The final group match was against the Tennis Club - the team we lost to in the finals last year, and we knew we needed to win the game to stay in the competition. Brendan’s toss calling skills deserted him on this occasion, and the Tennis Club put us in to bat first. They bowled well and despite some aggressive running from openers Mark and Robert, our total was too low to prove much of a challenge to the Tennis Club, who went on to win the tournament in a convincing fashion, bowling out their opponents in the final for just 13 runs!
