Broadband hints, tips and questions

I've no experience of the 2100G, but there's a review of it on adslguide.org.uk. It seems it might have a few problems if you're doing any heavy peer to peer stuff, but it is easy to set up and good for folks who are new to broadband. The full review is here. There are two microfilters provided with the 2100g, which might be enough for you. You'll need one for each telephone wall socket that has a phone plugged into it. I get most of my hardware from dabs.

Alternatively, I know Tommo really rates his Linksys wag300n, and I set up a NetGear DG834G for a neighbour and it seems to be coping really well - both are worth a look if you want to try something different.

However, if you're new to broadband and not confident of being able to set it all up yourself then it's probably best to go with the kit provided by your ISP.

Thanks Stephen, but I can't go with the kit supplied by the ISP as I have to get three computers onto get onto the Internet, two are used a lot.
I have never stuck at anything yet and I don't intend to stick this time either

I will have a look at the others and the review.
I had to get some more filters and got three, all for the price of one including the postage. That and the two with the modem should cover everything except the fax machine, which is rarely used these days and will be covered when I get a wireless router as there will be with it as well.

I just liked the look of the 2100, as it was easy to set up according to a review I read some time back. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then though.

Glad you found the review useful. adslguide.org.uk is a really good site if you want to find out about broadband. They have a very active message board with discussions about all the major ISPs, hardware, security, etc. Well worth a look.
