Las Posadas

Catterline Las Posadas 2013

Las PosadasThis year the carved wooden Mary and Joseph figures will once again be making their journey around the community in the run up to Christmas.

As in previous years, they will stay in a different home each night. The next day, they will move on, and the host families will have an opportunity to meet and spend a little time together during the handover.

In previous years, host families have been given a tree decoration as a gift to remind them of Mary and Joseph’s visit. This year, we invite you to be creative and MAKE a tree decoration which represents some aspect of the Christmas story. The Los Posadas basket will contain some short sections of the Bible story to help with inspiration. You can make your decoration from anything you like, or use one of the wooden blanks which will be in the basket as a starting point.

All the decorations will be displayed on a tree at St Philip’s Church during our Christmas Carol service on 22nd December and during the following days. They may well feature in our Christmas morning service, too.

If you would like to join in with our community Christmas celebration, please phone Chris and Steph Rodger on 01569 750297, or 07715 567501 (Steph) or  email steph and we will fit you in on a date that suits you.

Las Posadas Catterline

Las Posadas CatterlineIt's that time of year again when the strangely smooth wooden people jump out of their summer cardboard box and majestically meander around our community, travelling in style in a wicker box alongside various cards and decorative adornments for the yuletide twig. They overnight in a variety of local homes, witnessing great hospitality and the partaking of home produce and beverages of an intoxicating nature. Their travel journal is decorated by all manner of community rascals, before their journey concludes at the great cathedral of St Philips amidst the angelic singing of the merry revellers happy to greet them and celebrate the gift they bring to the world.

If anyone wants to take part and welcome the Posada into their home over advent, please contact Chris and Steph (750297).

Las Posadas 2009

Las PosadasThese figures were made in Bethlehem and were gifted to Catterline Community Church.

In the days leading up to Christmas, the figures will be travelling around Catterline in a journey called Las Posadas (The Inns). This is a Mexican custom where the Nativity figurines are passed from home to home within a community to remember the journey that Mary and Joseph made to get to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Each receiving family welcomes the giving family into their home, offers them some hospitality and places the figurines into their Nativity scene for the night. The following evening, the figurines are passed on to another family in the village.

If you would like to learn more about this and host Mary and Joseph for a day, please contact Chris or Steph on 750297.
