Stewart Milne, Bancon and Dunecht Estates gave a public display of their plans to build 1000 homes, a supermarket, a new primary school plus other community resources. The developers brochure can be found here.

This comes very soon after Aberdeenshire Council's release of the Draft Structure Plan, in which Stonehaven and Portlethen are earmarked for significant expansion with 5,000 new homes in the next 15 years.

This looks like an opportunity to influence the way the development proceeds and get some significant benefits for the local area. For instance, they are speaking about a "Coastal Park" between Stonehaven and Dunnottar Castle, and it would be nice if the path that goes up to Black Hill and on to the Castle could be extended on to Fowlesheugh and perhaps even down to Catterline itself (although that would need the support of other landowners as well as Dunecht Estates).

The community council will be holding a public meeting to discuss this project on 14th October at 7.30 in Catterline School. Representatives of the developers will be there, and this would be a good opportunity to find out more details and ask any questions you might have.

You can download the developers presentation brochure from http://bancon.co.uk/stonehavensouth/ . Details of Aberdeenshire's Local Plan are at http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/planning/localplan/
