Now that our lovely lighthouse has been switched off, there have been a few informal suggestions that we might try to acquire it as a community resource. There certainly seems to be enough affection for the lighthouse, but is there a realistic use that we could put it to?

Article in P&J.

Apparently Northern Lighthouse Board havn't decided what to do with it yet, so there might be an opportunity to get in there if we want to. Any ideas?

A lot of very hard work, I expect. The point is thought that I've heard quite a few people comment that it would be nice if we could find a community use for the lighthouse, and there certainly does seem to be a lot of affection for the it. I've just had confirmation from the Northern Lighthouse Board that "whilst there has been a great deal of speculation and interest shown regarding the property we have yet to agree what is to be done with the surplus buildings", so there may still be an opportunity, and now is the time to see if we can come up with a realistic plan to put the lighthouse to a community use before it is sold and turned into a private house.

If nothing comes up, then fine, but it'd be a shame to not at least give it a little thought.

I have had my thinking cap on but not come up with much yet - would the lighthouse include the parking and building/flats next to the lighthouse or just the lighthouse itself?

It's just the lighthouse itself. The flats were sold some time ago and are privately owned and leased to the current occupants.
