Time is moving on. There are now just 5 full weekends to go until your carties need to be presented for scrutineering on 28th May.

Prizes

In addition to the prizes awarded last year, there are some new prizes on offer. The full list is as follows;

    Supreme Champion - The Connons Shield - Awarded to the fastest single run down the brae. The shield will be engraved with and displayed in the Creel Inn.

    Constructors Champion - Fastest aggregate time for all three runs. New.

    Best Engineered - as voted by the competitors at scrutineering.

    Best Decorated - as voted by the general public at the gala.

    Cartie Sprint - Winner of a race around the field at the gala. Each cartie pushed by up to two people around the (flat ish grass) gala field. Full rules will be announced in due course. New.

    "Champagne/Brown Ale/Brown Trouser Moment" - Most entertaining incident during the time trials, as voted for by the marshals.

Scrutineering & BBQ

Scrutineering of ALL carties will take place at 3pm on Sunday 28th May at Catterline Playing Fields. Scrutineering will be combined with a BYO BBQ for all teams - we'll provide bread rolls, ketchup and a barbecue, and you provide everything else. It'll be a good chance to meet your fellow competitors and size up the opposition.

Don't get too worried about the scrutineering. We'll highlight where we think something is dangerous, but we don't expect any carties to fail outright. You'll have plenty of time to put right anything that concerns us and we'll give as much help as we can to make sure your machine is up to scratch. If you want any advice before scrutineering please do get in touch. We're happy to arrange to inspect your machine before hand if you need guidance on anything specific.

Only your cartie has to be there to be scrutineered. If you can't be there yourself for whatever reason then you can arrange for someone to deputise for you.

We'll also be completing all the paperwork for the event at scrutineering, such as indemnity forms for all team members, etc. Remember that one of your team will be needed to act as a marshal on the day of the time trials (Sunday 11th July), and we'll need to know the name of your team's marshal at scrutineering.

Volunteers

We need about 10 more marshals than the 20 or so we'll get from each team. If you know anyone else who would be willing to help out then please let us know. The task will not be very taxing - little more than wearing a Day-Glo waistcoat and keeping people out of the way of the carties - but we're expecting quite a few more people than we had last year and need to make an effort to control things perhaps a little more than we did before.

Equipment

Any help sourcing the following equipment would be greatly appreciated;
    Walkie talkies. About 12.

    Traffic cones. As many as we can get our hands on. Used both to mark out the course on Saturday and Sunday and also to cone off "no parking" areas prior to the event on Sunday.

    Hi vis clothing. We'll buy some but can't afford to kit everyone out in Day-Glo waistcoats. If you have/can get hold of some it would help a lot. We'll need about 2 dozen in addition to the ones we plan to buy.

Practice and testing

Finally - a word about practice and testing. I expect all of you will want to try out your driving skills at some point, as well as fine tuning your design. When you are doing so, please please please please please wear protective clothing - helmet, gloves and a sturdy jacket at least. Tarmac hurts.

Thanks for that Andy. Much appreciated. I've just bought a dozen from screwfix as well, so with the ones from your work and perhaps a few more from elsewhere I think we should be OK.

We've sourced enough cones, and Paul is collecting tyres for us, so all we're looking for now is walkie talkies and bales.

The bales are the main concern. Nobody seems to have the small square bales any more. If anyone can help us find some to borrow for the gala weekend it'd be greatly appreciated. Ideally we'd need around 70.

OK - we've had an offer of 30 bales, which is great but we could use about as many again. Anyone know where we can buy/borrow 30 or 40 small square bales for the gala weekend (10th/11th June)?

OK - we've now got all the bales we need thanks to Neil Gammie, and Invsat have very kindly offered to loan us the radios, so we've pretty much got all the stuff we need. Many thanks to everyone who pitched in to help us out. Very Happy
