Carties Gear Up

The run up to the 2007 Catterline Cartie Challenge got under way on Sunday with the official inspection of all the entires (well - nearly all of them).
Scrutineers Robert, Chris and Sandy checked the 15 machines presented to ensure they all had effective steering and brakes and conformed to the construction rules.  All the carties passed, although many had a few issues to correct - mostly sharp edges and protrusions that might injure the driver or spectators.
All the machines seen were of a very high standard, and it was remarkable how much the carties have improved technically since the first Carte Challenge in 2005. Now almost all carties feature relatively complex steering systems and many have disk brakes, some of which are even hydraulically activated. One cartie even had full independant suspension!
Pictures of all the carties can be seen in the gallery , and you can see them in the flesh at the Catterline Gala on Saturday 9th June, followed by the Cartie Challenge on Sunday 10th.
